What is the Wapiti Walk?

The Wapiti Walk is a procession which is filled with large-scale animal puppets, hats, masks and music that parades through downtown Banff early in the afternoon on New Year's Eve to encourage residents and visitors to take part in First Night celebrations at the Banff Centre.

Who can participate?

Budding puppeteers, people in costumes, musicians… absolutely anyone! Simply dress warmly and come along as we sing and saunter our way through the streets of Banff.

Where and When?

We'll see you and a whole herd of Banffites and dignitaries for a gala sendoff at the Town of Banff Plaza, 2:00 pm on Sunday December 31st.

Need help?

We will host the following Wapiti Walk drop-in workshops to get you prepared for the procession. We supply the venue and materials, you simply supply your time and interest. Workshop attendance gets you a $3 discount on the price of a First Night button!
