Eco-Air Waves

Don't change that dial!

Visitors and residents traveling through Banff National Park will be able to tune into Park Radio this summer for some enlightening and theatrical environmental education messages.

In partnership with the Friends of Banff Park, Precipice Theatre has been busy this past year developing a series of environmental public service announcements, dramatic vignettes, audio plays and theatrical documentaries, thanks to financial support from the Alberta Ecotrust Foundation. Some of the topics the theatre troupe has focused on include: biodiversity, maintaining wildlife corridors, waste management, recycling and current parks research.

Using the talents of Precipice actors, the company is currently producing 12 Eco-vignettes, 20 public service announcements, 4 educational documentaries, and numerous audio archives of past theatre productions. One of the feature characters to emerge out of the Eco-Air Waves project is Nat Parker. Nat is a quirky, intrepid reporter who travels through Banff National Park on bicycle in search of unearthing the mysteries of the park, and especially the park users!

Final recordings for a number of the public service announcements, vignettes and radio plays will take play between May - August. If you are interested in getting involved in Eco Air Waves, check the volunteer opportunites section on our home page or contact us at: ptsbanff@telusplanet.net.

Park Radio can be heard in Banff National Park at 101.1 FM and 103.3 FM in French. Friends of Banff National Park operate the station, which routinely runs natural and human history features, public safety information, updates on ongoing park projects, along with regular weather and trail reports.

Eco-Air Waves is made possible through a funding grant from the Alberta Ecotrust Foundation
